How to Have a Relationship With Jesus

[First off I would like to say that getting “saved” and having eternal life is not a work thing. You do not get to heaven by being a “good person” because everyone is sinful and can't measure up to God’s perfection. You don’t get to heaven by following religious rules or doing “more good than bad”. Real salvation is all God. Its grace.]

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and that is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
 

Some important things to know about God:

He is perfect. That’s the first thing to understand. He is perfect, was perfect, and will always be perfect.

Psalm 18:30

³⁰ As for God, His way is perfect;
The word of the Lord is proven;
He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

He has always existed and He always will.

Psalm 90:1-2      

Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
 Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

God made man to be in a relationship with Him but we are sinful.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

(That verse said all have sinned. So me, you, your parents, the president, the pope, pastors, the nice old lady down the street, EVERY SINGLE HUMAN. Well… not One. But we’ll get to Him later.)

With sin, disobedience to God, comes death, aka eternal separation from God

Romans 6: 23a

For the wages of sin is death

Well God doesn’t like that. He loves the world; He loves everyone even if they are His enemy due to sin.

John 3: 16

For God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Romans 5: 10

For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

So who is this Son these two verses talk about? It’s Jesus. Jesus is a lot of things. He’s God (John 1:1-5).  So he never sinned (2 Corinthians 5:21).  Jesus is the same God I have been talking about this whole time! The one and only True God! And what He did for us all is amazing!

He died.

Uh… okay…

But He didn’t just die and stay dead. Jesus rose from the dead to take away our sins so we can now be reunited with God!!

 Now let’s get on to how this eternal life happens. Time to finish up Romans 6:23

Romans 6:23b

BUT the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord!!!!! (Exclamation marks added)

Romans 10:9

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

John 14:6

(Jesus talking) “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life and no one comes to the Father except through Me.”

So how do you get saved and have peace with God? By accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord!
